To: phys-grad@listhost.uchicago.edu Subject: Openings for interns in museum presentation of science Dear Graduate Student: University of Chicago's Center for the Presentation of Science is seeking motivated graduate students from all divisions of the university willing to commit ten hours per week to learn in the company of an interdisciplinary group of students and professionals. The interns will learn conceptual and physical design of museum exhibits aimed at illustrating and explaining scientific principles. The work will be done at University of Chicago and at local science museums, including the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. The working teams will be instructed and led by coaches from Chicago and museum professionals. In addition to team activities and museum visits, students will participate in workshops and study groups. The internship will culminate in the design and development of one or more museum displays or demonstrations. You will be required to attend weekly meetings, produce short written reports and make formal presentations to museum staff and Chicago faculty. * Approval of a thesis adviser and/or department adviser is required. * Interns receive a quarterly stipend of $750-$1,000, depending upon experience.
